Kunnathunad Grama Panchayat

Kunnathunad Grama Panchayat is the Grama panchayat that comes under the jurisdiction of Kunnathunad Revenue Village in Vadavukode Block Panchayat in Ernakulam district. Covering an area of 18.57 square kilometers, the boundaries of the panchayat are Kizhakkambalam and Vengola panchayats to the north, Mazhuvannur panchayat to the east, Aikkaranad and Vadavukode Puthencruz panchayats to the south, and Thrikkakara panchayat to the west. Kunnathunad Grama Panchayat was formed on June 11, 1953. It is an area filled with hills and elevated lands. At the beginning of the panchayat, there were 6 wards. Hindus, Christians, and Muslims are present in almost equal proportions in this grama panchayat. Elders of the area say that even during the great flood of AD 99, there were many places in this panchayat that rose above and survived flood threats while other regions were affected. Places of worship of Hindus, Muslims, and Christians that are more than 500 years old still remain preserved without major damage. The Pallikkara St. Mary’s Church, one of the most ancient and historically famous churches of Malankara, was established in AD 905. The Pallikkara Mosque, which is more than a thousand years old, and the centuries-old Kumarapuram Sri Subrahmanya Temple and Erumeli Mahavishnu Temple stand close to each other as symbols of religious harmony.
